Deep One + Mixed Media Board
I have been wanting to play with these Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Boards. I bought a six pack last year, and have had them bumping around my studio for what seems like forever. They are super thick and tough, and seem like they would be a blasp to splatter ink and watercolor on. I was feeling playful so I finally pulled the trigger and just attacked one of these 8” x 10” boards with pencil.
I had in mind a simple idea. Just one single monster – a Deep One. They have been on my short list of single figures to watercolor for too long. Today was the day.
After a fast figure sketch, I went in quick with a Pentel Brush Pen and inked my lines. One rule for this experiment was to give myself just four hours. Two hours for pencil sketch and ink, and then two hours of watercolor. It worked brilliantly. If you ever want to get something done, force yourself to go quicker than your self doubt can react. It works. Deep One done! Wrapped it and headed out to Chaosium Con 25.
Chaosium Con 25
Chaosium Con 25 is the fourth Chaosium convention I’ve attended and the companies 50th Anniversary in making games. I took the picture above on day three after I completely forgot to take any. Ha! This convention is always amazing. and for reasons I cannot yet reveal, was one for the books. Had a fantastic time with my lovely girlfriend (Wini)Fred, and the always amazing Seth Skorkowsky of youtube horror gaming fame.
Make haste! Before doubt sets in! Go grab a pencil, brush pen, and a tiny watercolor set… and watch the deep ones appear in your journals!
